A situation in which two banks pool their assets and liabilities to become one bank. Because this can have a significant impact on the financial industry, the Federal Reserve subjects mergers involving bank holding companies to more intensive regulation.
The government of India has merged 10 Public Sector Banks into 4 banks. The information was announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in 2019. But, as per the RBI notification in late March, the merger with banks will happen from next year. The Union Finance Minister has said that benefits of the amalgamation will include managing capital better and making it more efficient.
