A surah is the equivalent of “chapter” in the Quran. There are 114 surahs in the Quran, each divided into ayahs. The chapters or surahs are of unequal length; the shortest surah has only three verses while the longest contains 286 verses. The Holy Qur’an is the divine book of Allah for Muslims, New Muslims world wide , revealed in stages to the Prophet Muhammad PBUH over 23 years only. The first surah of the Quran (Surah Al-Fatihah), consisting of seven verses.
