Madhya Pradesh is the second largest Indian state by area and the fifth largest state by population with over 72 million residents. It is also known as the ‘Heart of India’. Bhopal is the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. Indore is the largest city in the state. The state shares its borders with Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh.
The climate in Madhya Pradesh is tropical. It has a very hot summer followed by a monsoon from July to September. The winters are fairly cool and dry, and the crops grown there include wheat, rice, soybeans, pulses and mustard. Jabalpur is the headquarters for West Central Railway Zone of Indian Railways. Madhya Pradesh has a total of 20 major railway junctions.
There are many beautiful cities in Madhya Pradesh. UNESCO has declared some of these places as World Heritage Sites. Some interesting sites in India are the Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka, Devi Jagadarnbi temple, Khajuraho Group of Monuments and Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi, Dhar, Amarkantak. There is also the Burnt Mosque of Bhopal and Buddhist Monuments at Chitrakuta and Omkaresh. However, as the country is geographically very large and its history stretches over centuries, it has developed a varied image for visitors to enjoy. This includes traditions, culture heritage & architecture.
